The next time you’re looking for an entertaining way to pass the evening, just remember these three words: Rent Movies Online. But what movie will you select? After all, there are literally hundreds of thousands to choose from (Netflix itself carries over 100,000 in its film library). To help take some of the guesswork out of the equation, I’ve put together a brief list of movies available on DVD and Blu-ray. Before you spend hours staring blankly at the aisles of your local video store, hop online and give one of these a try.
The Green Mile (1999) – Based on the novel by Stephen King, The Green Mile is set on Death Row at Cold Mountain Penitentiary, a place where murderers and rapists come to receive their final punishment. Tom Hanks plays Paul Edgecomb, a prison guard whose world is turned upside down after meeting the massive John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), an inmate sentenced to death for the brutal murder of two girls. But is Coffey really guilty, and what’s up with his bizarre ability to heal the sick and even resurrect a dead pet? A nice blend of the prison film and the supernatural, it co-stars David Morse, Bonnie Hunt, Sam Rockwell, Michael Jeter, and James Cromwell.
Scarface (1983) – Director Brian De Palma shocked the MPAA with his tale of a Cuban refugee (Al Pacino) who lands in Miami and quickly begins to work his way up the criminal ladder. Originally receiving an X rating, the film is filled with mountains of cocaine, a memorable chainsaw scene, and Pacino’s Tony Montana cursing his attackers while wielding a machine-gun and firing off grenades. An entertaining and thoroughly over-the-top look at the cocaine boom of the 1980s, and one of Pacino’s most bombastic performances (and that’s really saying something). Co-starring Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert Loggia, and F. Murray Abraham.
Oceans (2010) – The French sure know how to make documentaries about nature (Jacques Cousteau anyone?), and Oceans is no exception. With a budget in excess of $60 million, the project took over four years to film and explores the mysteries and beauty of the Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, Pacific, and Southern Oceans. An ideal motion picture for family viewing.
Happy Gilmore (1996) – Adam Sandler stars as a washed-up hockey player with a devastating slapshot and no skating skills. When the IRS threatens to take away his grandmother’s house, he turns to golf to raise the necessary funds to get it back. But Happy will need to get real good real fast, and he’ll have to navigate crocodiles, deranged fans, and Bob Barker along the way. A wacky Adam Sandler comedy co-starring Christopher McDonald, Carl Weathers, and Ben Stiller (in an uncredited role).
Hotel Rwanda (2004) – Don Cheadle stars as Paul Rusesabagina, a hotel manager in Rwanda who must face a series of difficult choices when ethnic violence and genocide erupt in his country. A powerful film with themes similar to Schindler’s List, it co-stars Nick Nolte, Joaquin Phoenix, and Jean Reno. Based on a true story.
Once again, anyone searching for a quality entertainment experience should remember the words “Rent Movies Online.” It’s concise, to the point, and conveys the growing number of moviegoers who are staying home to enjoy the art of cinema in the comfort of their own home. Thanks to services such as GreenCine, Blockbuster, and Netflix, you can do the same.
With the advent of online movie rentals, millions of net users are signing up for the service. This concept was invented by NetFlix way back in 1999. The pioneers are still the leaders but are facing tough competition today in the form of IntelliFlex and BlockBuster. All the sites, today, claim free shipping, unlimited number of online movie rentals in a month, a large collection of the latest movies and no time limit for keeping the movies.
However, these newcomers provide video game rentals whereas NetFlix only specializes in online movie rentals. Additionally, IntelliFlex provides an array of adult online movie rentals attracting those who have a penchant for adult entertainment also.
To fight the 4500 retail stores that BlockBuster has, which it uses for promoting and advertising its online movie rental services, NetFlix has now tied up with Wal-Mart. The veteran is now using Wal-Mart’s brick and mortar presence to augment their efforts for the online movie rental services. In spite of the large presence on the ground, BlockBuster is now likely to find that contending with the innovator is not likely to be cakewalk. They give away two printable coupons per month for in-store game or movie rentals and also design discount schemes and privileged deals.
To combat the leader in the online movie rental industry, BlockBuster offered a rate approximately 3USD cheaper than NetFlix when they launched their service. However, over time they have increased the rates to match those of NetFlix. IntelliFlex still operates at a dollar lower than the other two.
The opportunity to be able to see a large number of the latest movies at rock bottom prices seems like a dream come true. But this dream lasts only for a temporary period for the online movie rental subscriber since the companies realize that sending so many movies in a month would not be profitable for them. The heavy users of NetFlix seem to have realized that they were being throttled. The movies that they asked for were not being sent to them on time. The online movie rental site claimed that they had not received their movies back and so could not send the next lot of three. This seems to be occurring mostly with heavy users of the service since they probably rent more movies in a month than what the site has budgeted per subscription. At the same time the online movie rental sites are not in a position to state that they will restrict the number of movies rented since competition is tough and ‘unlimited’ sounds so much better than a constricting number. Loyal consumers of NetFlix are feeling cheated and blogging heavily on this topic.
Pro -BlockBuster customers claim that this site has been extra kind to their customers and have asked the US postal department to scan the mailers to indicate to them which movies have been sent back. This saves the shipping back time and the next lot of movies or games can be sent as soon as the previous batch of movies has been put in the post.
It remains to be observed as to how long this will last and when BlockBuster realizes that unlimited online movie rentals in a month will only give them a red bottom line. Whether they resort to unethical and surreptitious practices like the pioneers of online movie rentals or are candid and courageous enough to state it upfront is a matter of speculation.
Everyone loves to watch movies, I am sure you do to. Whether it is a classic or a new popcorn flick, the choices are endless. Watching movies however sometimes feels like a special event, not because of all the special effects and the magic on screen but down to the price that we pay to watch them. If we visit the cinema we have to pay around ?10 for one single ticket. To watch movies on satellite TV we need to upgrade our package and that can cost ?55 a month. All of these options are very expensive, however there is something that will save you money while allowing you to watch as many movies as you would like.
This something is called internet movie rental. The basic concept is you pay a small monthly fee which is around ?13 and you can then watch as many movies as you would like. When I first heard of this service I was dubious, I decided to try it out though because a friend of mine swore how well it worked.
The reason why I am writing this article is to tell you how well it works. I had never heard of internet movie rental until I was told about it so I am guessing the word has not spread that far about this excellent service. If you are wondering how it works then it is pretty simple. You sign up to one of the UK’s leading movie rental companies and within minutes you have access to over 100,000 movies. You then select which movie you would like to see and they are then sent to you in the post.
These movies take around 1 to 2 days to reach you and when they do you can keep them as long as you would like without having to worry about late fees. Even if you only watch 3 movies a month this service will save you hundreds of pounds a year.
